
Arnold Fredrick Schick, 90, a lifelong resident of West Scranton, passed away unexpectedly Monday at Geisinger Community Medical Center in Scranton. He was the widower of his beloved Catherine Garbach Schick for 67 years.
Born in Scranton, the son of the late Helmudt and Louise Schick, he attended West Scranton High School and was employed by The Scranton Times for 50 years. Arnold served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was a lifelong member of Mary, Mother of God Parish at Holy Rosary Church in Scranton and also a long time member of the American Legion Post 306 in Taylor.
He was a loving and dedicated husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He loved fishing, playing guitar and keyboard, going to garage sales, spending time with his family, and attending his grandchildren’s different events. His family was his world.
Arnold is survived by his son, Arnold Schick (JoAnn), Scranton; four daughters, Joan Tylutke (Walter), Dupont; Janet Sroga, Dupont; Katherine Schmidt (Joseph), Scranton; and Linda Savinelli, Scranton; nine grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Catherine; his granddaughter, Alyssa Tylutke; and two sons-in-law, Michael Sroga and Michael Savinelli.
The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff at Geisinger Community Medical Center.
A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 9:30 am in Mary, Mother of God Church, William Street.
