Armeda M. Magnotta

 

Armeda M. Magnotta, Scranton, passed away on Sunday, March 3, 2024 at 85 years old at Geisinger CMC Medical Center. Born in Scranton, daughter of the late Rocco and Rocchina DiVivo Magnotta, she was a graduate of West Scranton High School and Marywood University, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education. She was a lifelong member of St. Ann’s Basilica, where she worked many years at the annual Novena. For 35 years, she taught 5th Grade in the Scranton School District and touched the lives of countless students at both Lincoln and Willard Elementary Schools. She proudly followed in the footsteps of her brother, Frederick Magnotta, and her sister, Sue Ann Magnotta, who were both teachers in the Scranton School District. She was a proud member of the Catholic Adult Club, the Pennsylvania State Education Association, the Scranton Women Teachers’ Club, and the Scranton Retired Teachers’ Club. She enjoyed traveling to New York City with her sisters to see Broadway shows and participating in her canasta club. But most of all, she treasured the time she spent with her beloved family. Surviving is a sister, Sue Ann Magnotta, Scranton, nieces, Lucille Silvestrini and husband Joseph, Upper Gwynedd, PA, Susan Magnotta, nephews, Fred Magnotta and wife Joan, Christopher Magnotta and wife Kristin, all of Scranton, great nieces and great nephews, including Laura McGarry and husband Kevin, Leigh Fennie and husband William, Maria Magnotta and Rock Magnotta, Jenna Stewart and husband Ian, Melissa Silvestrini, Ellie Magnotta and several great great nieces and nephews, including William, Andrew, and Russell Fennie; Jack, Alice and Kate McGarry; and Adalyn Stewart. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Felix Magnotta and Frederick Magnotta, a sister, Eleanor A. Matteo, sisters-in-law, Judith Magnotta and Jennie Magnotta, and nephew, Rock Magnotta. The family would like to thank Dr. Kenneth Sebastianelli and Cindy for their excellent care and kindness. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 10 a.m. in St. Ann’s Basilica, Scranton. Internment, Cathedral Cemetery, Scranton. Friends may call Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Thomas J. Hughes Funeral Home, Inc., 1240 St. Ann Street. Memorial contributions can be made to St. Ann’s Basilica.
