Ann Marie (Calpin) Hill

The family of Ann Marie (Calpin) Hill is saddened to announce her passing on March 1, 2026. Ann Marie was a lifelong resident of the Minooka section of Scranton. Born on August 20, 1933 to Catherine (Cotter) Watso and Thomas Cotter. She will be lovingly remembered by her family and cherished friends. She was preceded in death by her husbands, James T. Calpin, Sr. and Edward (Eddie) Hill, son James T. Calpin, Jr. and sister Sally Collins. Before retirement, Ann Marie worked at South Scranton Junior High School as the school nurse for 25 years. After retiring she enjoyed bartending at American Legion Post 568 and Judge’s Bar. She loved traveling and going to Atlantic City with Eddie and her closest friends. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother, as well as a “mom” to many of her children’s friends growing up. Her home in Minooka became a pretty regular hangout for her children and their friends, some even staying for quite a while, probably because she didn’t notice a few more kids in the house. She is survived by her children Karen Calpin, Nancy Schimelfenig (Jack), Colleen Strong (Bob), Thomas Calpin (Donna), Maureen Kolodzieski (Ed), Gerald Calpin (Val), Patrick Calpin (Marlene), George Calpin (Brenda) and Brian Calpin (Jill). She is also survived by her nineteen grandchildren, fifteen Great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the staff at Linwood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and Hospice of the Sacred Heart for their compassionate care and kindness. Family and friends may call on Friday, 3-6-26 from 9:00am to 10:00am in Divine Mercy Parish, 312 Davis Street, Scranton, PA 18505 with a mass of Christian burial at 10:00am. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America in Ann Marie’s memory. Arrangements entrusted to Eagen-Hughes Funeral Home.

I am so very sorry for your loss. Losing a mom is one of the hardest things in life, and your mom was a wonderful person. I have fond memories of family gatherings at Aunt Anita and Uncle Irv’s . May she rest in peace and be reunited with her love ones. I will keep your family in my prayers. Sheila

Marty Judge

I was one of those kids who came to visit and somehow stayed for about 15 years. I’ll never forget the love, shelter, and patience she gave me — all while raising a house full of kids and working full time. She made room for one more without hesitation. I was one of the lucky ones. I will always be extremely grateful that she was part of my life.

Nancy and family, My condolences on the passing of your Mom. I met her when my friend was a roommate with her at Linwood. She always asked me to please take her to Minooka. Now I hope she made her final trip there. Rest in peace.

Anne Judge

Thank you Mrs. Calpin for being Marty’s second mother. Also, thank yoj for your friendship and support of our whole family. I have happy memories of you and our mom when you both started Judges lunch business in the mid 70s and laughing and having fun with it. Rest in peace. ❤️☘️🙏
