
Alice Tierney McLaughlin, 95, of Bethlehem and formerly Scranton, passed away peacefully Saturday at home. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 61 years, Martin Joseph McLaughlin II.
Born in Scranton PA, she was the daughter of the late James and Mary Joyce Tierney. She was a graduate of St. Ann’s High School and lifelong member of St. Ann Basilica Parish. Before retirement, she was employed by Fletcher’s Drug Store and Bell Telephone.
She had an artistic flare and enjoyed decorating, designing and organizing. She loved her trips to the shore with her husband, siblings and children. She was a kind and loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt who will be deeply missed.
She is survived by her ten children, Mary Joyce, Berard, Chris, Lori Gibbons and husband, Bruce; Joanne Kincel and husband, Frank; Jeanne Dohoney and husband, John; Lisa Cummings and husband, Tim; all of Pennsylvania; Timothy and wife, Francesca, Texas; Martin Joseph III and wife, Bernadette, Virginia; James and wife, Mellea, California; a sister, Helen Cummings; sister in law, Ann Munley; brother in law, Michael Castaldi; 27 Grandchildren, 24 Great Grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her siblings Anna Pervish, Mary, Eugene, James, Joseph, Father Berard Tierney C.P., Betty Higgins, Aloysius Tierney, and two grandsons, Andrew and Conner.
A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Saturday at 10:30 am in St. Ann Basilica, Scranton, by the Very Rev. Richard Burke, C.P. Interment, Cathedral Cemetery, Scranton. If you wish to pay your respects, the family will greet visitors in the Basilica prior to mass from 9:30 am to 10:30 am. CDC guidelines will be observed. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Ann Basilica Parish, 1250 St. Ann Street, Scranton, PA 18504. The mass will be livestreamed online at hallock.live on YouTube.

Dear Jim,
I am so sorry to hear about your dear mother, Alice Tierney McLaughlin’s passing.
I know this is a difficult time for you and I wish I had words to make it easier. Your mother had a long life and I know how close the two of you were. She must have been proud of you and all your accomplishments.
