Albert Joseph "AJ" Garren

Albert Joseph "AJ" Garren, 50, was called home on Dec. 9, 2023, after a courageous, lifelong battle with depression. Born and raised in Scranton, Pa., AJ spent his time as a dedicated and hardworking roofer and painter, a trade in which was passed down by his beloved father. Throughout his years, AJ enjoyed boxing and singing songs for all to hear. He loved to be surrounded by his family, friends and his fur babies, Church, Meemer and Ralph. AJ was a stranger to no one and radiated love and light to everyone around him. He was authentically and wholeheartedly himself. His legacy will carry on forever, reminding us to unapologetically live our lives, as if no one else is watching. Over the course of the last five years, AJ devoted his time to become an important and reliable fixture in his community, the Christ Episcopal Church in Susquehanna, Pa. His giving nature and heart of gold will never be forgotten. AJ's memory lives on through his surviving children, Alex, Collin, Austin "Zach" and McKenna (Madison), who were his greatest accomplishments in life. He is also survived by two grandsons, Greyson and Landon; mother, Sharon (Jim) Havey; three sisters, Suzanne (Chris) Fedor, Natalie (James) Wirth, Tracy (Mark) Capalongo; and two brothers, Nevin Neff and Jordan (Tara) Garren. He is also survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Albert H. Garren. A celebration of life will be held at the Thomas J. Hughes Funeral Home in Scranton, Pa. Family and friends are welcome to pay their respects on Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. A private burial to follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention or a charity of your choice.

AJ was kind, empathetic, and giving. He was a pillar at Christ Episcopal Church. He always helped his church family, either with renovations or whatever was needed. He was a much loved community church member who also brought so much joy to others. Deepest condolences to his family. He will be missed.

Our condolences to your entire family. "He is in the wind that blows, the rain that falls. He is in the flowers that grow, and the birds that sing..." You will not hear him, or see him. But he never left you. Look to your heart, for there he will be. A place that you can see him and talk to him. For he never left you.πŸ˜‡πŸ™
