Marie F. Tyrrell, 56, of Scranton, took her final breath, Sunday, July 17, 2016, at Geisinger Community Medical Center, holding her loving son’s hand, while surrounded by family and friends after a courageous fight with cancer.Born in Scranton, daughter of the late Michael and Patricia Wisniewski Chekan, she was a graduate of Keystone College and an employee of the Scranton School District. Marie enjoyed shopping, including regular trips to T.J. Maxx, followed by a Dunkin Donuts iced coffee. She also had a compassion for animals, and was a loving friend to everyone she knew. She loved spending time with her family, especially her late son, Justin, and dog, Gus.Among many great attributes that Marie possessed, none were ever more prominent than her strength and courage.Surviving are a son, Frank Joyce and companion, Anne Rovinsky, Scranton; a brother, Michael Chekan and wife, Darie, Scranton; a niece, Nicole Chekan; a nephew, Michael Chekan; her companion, Karl Beichler; aunts, uncles and cousins.She was preceded in death her son, Justin F. X. Tyrrell.The family would like to thank the doctors and nursing staff at Geisinger Community Medical Center for the outstanding care and compassion shown toward Marie.The funeral will be Thursday at 9:30 a.m. from the McGoff-Hughes Funeral Home, 1401 Capouse Ave., Scranton, with Mass of Christian Burial at 10 in Immaculate Heart of Mary Chapel, Oram Street.
