Albert B. Walker

Albert B. Walker, Scranton, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 28 at Geisinger Mountain View Care Center. He celebrated his 95th birthday with his family on February 20th. Mr. Walker was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy, the love of his life, five weeks to the day of his passing. They had been happily married for 71 years in July.Born in Olyphant to the late Maybert Banks and Clarence Walker, he was a graduate of Olyphant High School.Prior to his retirement, Al worked for 42 years with the Delaware and Hudson railroad, and subsequently as a special assistant to his long time friend Paul Thomas at Gateway Ford, Tunkhannock, a second career which he truly enjoyed. Albert was a caring and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and a friend to all he met. He was a member of the Scranton Elks Club, and the Elmhurst Country Club. An avid bowler for many years, he could be found most Monday nights at Green Ridge Lanes, and subsequently with his circle of friends at St. Marys Club. He always enjoyed solving crossword puzzles. A true blue New York Yankees fan, he very much enjoyed trips to Yankee Stadium, and watching all the games on television. The greatest joys of his life however were his family and his expressed desire to name every new child in the family Albert or Alberta.He is survived by his sons Albert, Scranton; Thomas and Jeri, Lake Spangenburg; Peggy Heffron and husband Dr. Edward, Old Forge; Phyllis Lynady and husband Timothy, Minooka; six grandchildren, Jennifer Marzzacco and husband Joseph; Kimberly Conway and husband Christopher; Stephanie Davis and husband Jamie; Attorney Patrick Heffron and wife Lisa; Lindsay Dapsis and husband Dan; and Christopher 'CJ' Walker and wife Danielle; nine great-grandchildren, Nicole and Joey Marzzacco, Kate and Kelly Heffron, Noah, Mia, and Caroline Davis, Caitlyn Dapsis, and Nathalie Walker; nieces and nephews.He was also preceded in death by his siblings Eleanor Evans, Clarence Walker, and Maybert Emick.The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation and gratitude for the compassionate, warm, and personal care provided by the entire staff of Geisinger Mountain View Care Center. There are too many to mention individually, but the love and concern shared by the staff at all levels was remarkable and you all have a special place in our hearts.The funeral will be Saturday at 10:15am from the Eagen-Hughes Funeral Home, 2908 Birney Ave., with Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30am in Divine Mercy Parish to be celebrated by Rev. Francis L. Pauselli, pastor. Entombment, Italian-American Cemetery, Scranton. Friends may call Friday, 4 to 7pm, and are asked to go directly to Church on Saturday.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Geisinger Mountain View Care Center, 2309 Stafford Ave., Scranton, PA 18505.
