David A. JohndrowOctober 15, 2014David A. Johndrow, 72, of Scranton, died Wednesday at VNA Hospice. His wife is Margaret Williams Johndrow. The couple was married for 23 years.Born in Broadbrook, Conn., son of the late Oliver and Catherine Pelton Johndrow, he proudly served in the Navy during the Vietnam War, and was in the Reserves for 24 years. David worked in plant operations at Geisinger Community Medical Center for 31 years, and served as a bartender at the Marine Corps League, of which he was an associate member. He enjoyed bowling, baseball card collecting and war movies, and was a fan of the New York Yankees, Giants and Boston Celtics.The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses of the fifth floor and VNA Hospice at Geisinger Community Medical Center for their ongoing care and hospitality.Also surviving are three sons, David Jr. and wife, Mariarose, Avoca; Mark and wife, Paula, Duryea; and Brian, Clarks Summit; a stepson, William Hughes and wife, Holly; six grandchildren, Lyndsie, Mitchell and Sean Johndrow and Patrick, Gracie and Madison Hughes; a sister, Carol Goldstein and husband, Alan, Manchester, Conn.; nieces, nephews and cousins.He was also preceded in death by a brother, Andrew Johndrow.The funeral will be Monday at 10 a.m. from the McGoff-Hughes Funeral Home Inc., 1401 Capouse Ave., Scranton, with Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 in Immaculate Conception Church to be celebrated by the Rev. Joseph Sica. Interment, Fairview Memorial Park, Elmhurst. Friends may call Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m.
