John F. Ardizoni

John F. Ardizoni, 88, of Clarks Summit, died Sunday at Regional Hospital of Scranton. His wife of 60 years is Joan Connor Ardizoni.Born in Scranton, son of the late Guy and Catherine Sullivan Ardizoni Sr., he was a member of Our Lady of Snows Church, where he served as a Eucharistic minister, and was a 1946 graduate of Dunmore High School. After graduation, he went into the family business, Scranton Food Lockers. John served in the Army during the Korean Conflict as a corporal in the military police, stationed in Frankfurt, Germany. In 1961, he made a career change and began working for Mercy Hospital, where he worked until retiring in 1991 as director of the Data Processing Department. John was always most proud of his achievement for installing the first computer at the hospital.He was a 50 year member of the American Legion Post 7069 and a Third Degree Knights of Columbus, Abington Council Members for 50 years. He was an avid golfer and member of the Country Club of Scranton. Before his retirement, he participated in the Mercy Hospital Bowling League and the American Legion Bowling League. During his retirement years, John enjoyed traveling with his wife, Joan, to various places in Europe, Japan and the South Seas, but he especially liked wintering in Myrtle Beach and Palm Springs, where he could always find time to golf. He enjoyed spending time with his extended family and never missed a party or celebration.Also surviving are a brother, Guy Jr., Dunmore; nieces, Lynn Fidiam and Joanie Ardizoni; nephew, Guy III; and their children; in-laws, Robert, James, John and Patrick Connor and Bernice Connor Gavin; 23 nieces and nephews; 48 great-nieces and nephews; and more than 50 great-great-nieces and nephews.The funeral will be Friday at 9:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Snows Church, Clarks Summit. Interment, Cathedral Cemetery. Friends may call Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Thomas J. Hughes Funeral Home Inc., 1240 St. Ann St., Scranton, and are asked to go directly to church on Friday. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Our Lady of Snows Church or St. Patrick’s Food Pantry.
