Nora Boczar

Nora Nicodem Boczar, Scranton, died Tuesday, October 21, 2014.Born in Scranton on Dec. 31, 1962, daughter of the late George and Dorothy Nicodem, she attended Scranton Central High School, Marywood University and Widener School of Law. Nora holds an MBA in Healthcare Administration, a degree in legal studies, a Bachelor of Science in nursing, and certification in project management from Villanova University. She worked as a labor relations consultant in a variety of industry groups such as hospitality, transportation, manufacturing, and health care. Nora specialized in human resources, operations, and employee and labor relations in the health care sector. Before working in labor and relations, she worked as a nurse at Scranton Regional Hospital, Community Medical Center, Mercy Fitzgerald, and many other hospitals. Her strong will to live, her unwavering faith in God, and the love and prayers of family, friends and many supporters carried her through the months of grueling chemotherapy, surgery and radiation. Yet even throughout her own struggle with cancer, she comforted and reached out to others affected by the horrendous disease in many ways.Family and friends were Nora’s love and light.Nora is survived by her children, Edward Boczar and fiancée, Lindsay Rudy of Scranton; Nicole and Patrick McGuigan of Alexandria, Va.; Matthew Boczar of San Diego, Calif.; Marissa Boczar and fiancé, Benjamin Hannon of Clarks Summit, Pa.; survived by the father of her children, Edward Boczar; granddaughters, Kayla and Kiley McGuigan and Gianna Hannon; sister, Laura Horn­ O’Haion of Dunmore; aunt, Joan Blaker of Scranton; many nieces, nephews, cousins and dearest friends, Elizabeth Smith and Kathleen Glattly; along with numerous loving colleagues and friends.The family wishes to thank all of those who cared for her during her illness.In lieu of flowers, donations can be made at caring.com/other/in­lieu­of­flowers­for­nora-boczar/251720, to support two organizations dear to her hear: local scholarships (all saints) and friends of animals.A memorial Mass will be held Friday at noon in St. Paul’s Church, 1510 Penn Avenue.
